Approximately 9,900 hectares are used to create the Samruddhi Mahamarg route. It is anticipated that the Samruddhi Highway route will cut the travel duration between Mumbai and Nagpur to seven hours. The Nagpur Multimodal International Hub Airport (MIHAN) and the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) in Mumbai will be connected by the Mumbai Nagpur Expressway. Over 10,000 hectares of land would be used to establish Krushi Samruddhi Nagar, while 145 hectares will be used for amenities and services along the Samruddhi Mahamarg route. The project was constructed at Rs 64,755 million.

Samruddhi Mahamarg Phase 1 route
On December 11, 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially opened the Samruddhi Mahamarg route connecting Nagpur and Shirdi at Waiphal Toll, Nagpur.
Samruddhi Mahamarg Phase 2 route
On May 26, 2023, former Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde and former deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis officially opened phase two of the Samruddhi Mahamarg, which runs from Shirdi to Bharvir in Igatpuri Taluka, Nashik.
Samruddhi Mahamarg Phase 3 route
By March 2025, the third and final section of the 76-kilometer Mumbai Nagpur Expressway will be completed. Work on crash barriers, signboards, safety precautions, etc., is now in progress. By the end of March 2025, the full stretch should be accessible to the general public. To encourage local culture, Warli art has been painted on the significant tunnels in this section, which is an intriguing feature. The current 90-minute travel time between Amane and Igatpuri would drop to 40 minutes after this stretch is opened. In February 2024, a 25-kilometer section of the Mumbai Nagpur Expressway between Bharvir and Igatpuri became accessible to the general public.
Samruddhi Mahamarg – Land Acquisition and Other Details
Samruddhi Mahamarg will traverse the hilly landscape of the Western Ghats. Six lanes will be added to this eight-lane Mumbai Nagpur Expressway, along with two more service roads.
Of the six tunnels on the Samruddhi Mahamarg, the longest in Maharashtra is situated close to Kasara Ghat in Igatpuri. The longest tunnel, constructed with the “New Australian Tunneling Method,” can last up to 100 years. The 3-lane twin tunnel is 35 meters wide and extends 7.74 km to the right and 7.78 km to the left. Through this tunnel, it will take five minutes instead of the current twenty to twenty-five minutes to cross the Kasara Ghat.
According to a pooling mechanism, 30% of the developed land elsewhere will be distributed to farmers in exchange for the land acquired for the Samruddhi Mahamarg project. In addition, farmers will receive Rs 50,000 per hectare for non-irrigated land and Rs 1 lakh annually for irrigated land over the next ten years as part of the Mumbai Nagpur Expressway project.
Along the Samruddhi Mahamarg route, some 24 townships are being planned, which would further stimulate economic growth in some of the state’s less developed regions.
Samruddhi Mahamarg – Advantages
It will take about eight hours instead of fifteen to travel between two cities once the Mumbai Nagpur Expressway is completely functioning. The Mumbai Nagpur Expressway would facilitate EXIM commerce by connecting to other expressways, such as the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor and the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor.
